Brian, Although I have not switched a reg. from one tank to another I did have a reg. loosen up from a stage bottle. My mistake as I didn't check it before getting in the water (last time I did that). Although the yoke did not "fall off the tank" it was loose enough to rattle around when I turned the gas on. The first stage flooded (as I found out during the rebuild) but it did flow and I used it for more than 1 hour of deco. It was my O2 reg. so I guess that puts to rest the subject of O2 cleaning unless sea water is suitable for O2 cleaning.... And I thought Simple Green was cheap!! :-) Although I don't know for sure but I don't think the depth had anything to do with it. Maybe I'm wrong.... One of the things that I mentioned was that I had seen the idea of switching regs from tank to tank underwater in case of failure. Well that brought about much laughter and derisive comments that regs can NOT be switched underwater. They said, among other things, that the sintered filter would be fouled and wouldn't allow enough gas to pass to the first stage for it to function correctly. From what I've been reading over that last few months, UW switching of regs from tank to tank is part of the DIR philosophy so I just assumed that it was not a problem. So what I want to know is, has anyone switched a reg from tank to tank underwater? What happened? I have an old reg that I'm willing to sacrifice in my quest for knowledge but I thought I would ask here first.
