May I recommend you check out the archives on the techdiver list?
It might take some time but there is a wealth of information stored there.
Read all of this first:
http://www.aquanaut.com/bin/mlist/aquanaut/cavers/subject?deco

Then check out:
http://www.abysmal.com/tech-articles.html
read them all.

Then, brush up your German and read this excellent article about the Buehlmann
linear decompression model with links to books and other stuff:

http://www.tauchen.de/faq/saettigung/

If you want to add helium to the picture, go for:
http://www.cisatlantic.com/trimix/tools.html
and
http://personal.redestb.es/jep/decocalc/decocalc.zip
but it doesn't seem to work (Jim, can you check out this link on your site ,
please)
There is not really a lot about decompressing from helium on the net, at least
not accessible to the public.

For a good and FREE program that uses Buehlman algorithms, check out:

http://www.zplan.com

Write the author (Will Smithers) a mail, he will answer your queries, I'm sure.

Having done all that, ask the guys from WKPP (Bill Mee and GI4) what they have
found out empirically on their dives about decompression diving. Ask them
privately, not on any list.

You could also try to mail Dr. Bill Hamilton but he doesn't seem to read his
mails or deem it necessary to comment, so good luck on that.

The commercial guys don't budge unless you shove them a lot of money in their
hands, and have a pretty damn good reason for wanting the tables (no, study
isn't good enough :-)
Don't forget a lot of the really good decompression stuff is proprietary and I
wouldn't make something that I paid 1000's of dollars for, common knowledge
either.

This will get you started, I hope.
