First, on any kind of deeper dive, aborting to the surface is not an option (if you want to live) during the first half or so of the dive time, so dropping weight is a stupid idea, anyway. Second, even in a wetsuit with no backup drysuit bouyancy, you (I) would normally be carrying a liftbbag that could be used as backup bouyancy. Any kind of advanced open water training will teach you to deploy a lift bag in under a minute, and just using it for bouyancy without the spool or reel takes about 10 seconds.
