the narcotic effect of oxygen is,in general, a question. Specifically and anecdotally, I know it to be as narcotic as nitrogen. I have had very high po2s on gear that was working fine and pn2s that would not be a factor (yes this was dangerous, but unavoidable at that moment) there was severe narcosis that was probably exascerbated by natural co2 retention. Also, there was an incident where a 50/50 botlle came along for a ride to 200 ffw with a friend of mine. The only reason he noticed was that he was narced out of his gourd. That would have been a 100 ft dive by your calculations, of which there is narcosis-but not of that magnitude. The problem here is that the ignorance of these topics can induce a sense of safety when there is actually an increased danger due to the hi po2s regardless of the undesired effects. Why is nitrox a prerequsite? because you have to start somewhere. And most people forget the science they learned in gradeschool the day after finals. -EZ >so your saying using nitrox is not safer, does not provide a clearer mind >while diving? if not then why use nitrox and if your going to say you should >not use nitrox then why do you need a nitrox cert to move on to trimix? > >enlighten me > >> -----Original Message----- >> From: H20Caver [mailto:ezimmerm@ch*.ca*.us*.ed*] >> Sent: Thursday, February 25, 1999 7:17 PM >> To: vpg@li*.ne* >> Subject: Re: Rob Palmers death >> >> >> ".
