The SPG clip is normally attached using cave line or a zip-tie. Perhaps you are thinking of the breakaway for the long hose second stage? As I recall, JJ's method for securing the long hose second stage involved a tank O-ring and a zip-tie. The tank O-ring is looped around the hose in a "figure 8", and then zip-tied to the clip. This gives it a little "stretch", while still allowing it to be broken free with a good tug. Is that what you are thinking of? The same method could certainly be used for the SPG, but I'm not sure it's necessary.
