Forgive me for asking what must surely be a stupid question - I have
not been cave diving that long (three years, just over 100 cave dives).

If the restriction is so major and complex that two divers cannot get
out through it while sharing air, then why are they going INTO it in
the first place? That seems like a recipe for disaster.

If such a formation existed in the cave, then it seems like a
different gear config would be required to negotiate it safely (i.e.
side-mount or no-mount). And since that is beyond the scope of what
is typically taught in a Full Cave class, then it seems a pointless
scenario to discuss.

Or we could just teach them that if their plan involves a cave
passage where they are likely to encounter a restriction of that
type, then they should either (a) make another plan, or (b) call the
dive when they reach the restriction.

Again, I apologize if there is something obvious that I am missing
about the situation. Please enlighten me if there is.
