Not that many years back Scuba Queen manufactured a hood with air filled ear pockets. It had a small hose that attached to the second stage for automatic equalization. It was popular with the underwater miners (shallow gold dreging.) Because of their long hours spent submerged ear infections were all too common. As for myself, I prevent ear infections by always wearing a hood,(reduces the amount of water flushing the ears)and liberal use of baby oil. This was recomended at a diving and medicine seminar I attended years ago. The actual recommendation was for the use of olive oil as a first choice and baby oil as second choice. The idea being that it will take longer for the water to attack the ear canal if it must wash away an extra coating of oil. Zero ear infections in over 1500 dives. It's simple, easy to use and it works. Rod -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
