I said nothing about needing more government, my comment was directed at what I consider the lunatic fringe that believe the UN is taking over the world and creating the "New World Order". Well, so far I haven't seen the UN police knocking on my door. And as the world grows and matures I see an absolute need for some international organization to regulate global commerce, monitor international terrorists, etc., etc. I forget who said it, but I firmly believe in the quote "that government is best which governs least". This being said, I do think that in the complex world we live in, government is necessary to maintain an orderly society, on all levels. I won't insult your intelligence by enumerating the many benefits derived from some organized management of general society. Yes, I feel that in some areas my individual rights have been infringed upon in the name of law and order (I really hate the "Get tough on crime" mantra chanted by the conservative politicians) By-the-way, my paycheck comes from international chemical trading. The only financial relationship I have with the US government is donating a heap of money each year in taxes. Being involved in international commerce and being exposed to some of the scams perpetrated in this business makes me quite glad there is someone out there policing the crooks of the world. > >You know when the majority of the voting population becomes federal >workers and welfare recipients this great country will go the way of the >Roman empire. No argument that the bureaucracy is out of hand, but if you think the USA or any other country, government, organization or whatever will last forever then think again. We don't live in a static world and forever is a long time. I'm sure sometime in the next 1000 years the good old USA will not exist as we know it today. That's life and inevitable and not necessarily bad thing. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
