AUV = autonomous underwater vehicle. This means that it is controlled by an electronic "brain." It helps avoid obstacles, plan paths, remember, etc... If you look at WKPP's webpage, they have a mapper. Put a prop on it, and make it learn. As far as I understand, this mapper sends pings out and measures time to return. This gives a "slice" of the system. Our idea is to log these "slices" and have an on-board computer actually understand what they mean. Using this data, and o' course compass heading & depth, it should be able to navigate through any system, over-head and/or open ocean. My role in this project, due to the scope, will be focused on the pressure hull, controls, propulsion, and very basic "brains." I've noticed that my preliminary designs have been influenced by my diving knowledge. I am curious what I could come up with assuming I had more experience and knowledge. This is why I posed this question to you all. Good Day. Chris Lathan clathan@fi*.ed* -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
