JR Gordon, I had heard about this article and offer a few rebuttal points. The editor states that there are few technical dives in CA. Not true, I can think of about sixty off the top of my head. He also states that all dive boats that host deco. dives should have deco. chambers on board. Number One, all dives are deco. dives. Number Two, most technical divers are trained a hell of a lot better than commercial divers when it comes to deco. theory and practice. I am helping teach a technical class with two commercial divers who albeit are good divers, haven't a clue when it comes to deco. Number Three, deco. chambers are abundant in So. California should the need arise. Get DAN insurance. Number Four, where the hell am I going to fit a deco. chamber on my boat. If the editor scares people out of tech diving then great. The less people the better. Too many instructors push students into tech diving by telling them that tech diving is the next logical step from rec. diving. Karl Shreeves wrote a great article recently about "Why techdive?" in one of the recreational magazines.
