Unfortunately (or fortunately) I didn't get a chance to attend DEMA this
year. Since then, I've heard some interesting scuttle, that I'm hoping
someone more in the know than I can either confirm, deny, or elaborate
upon.
First item: I've been told IANTD trimix standards were recently changed
to a max depth of 260', and that no IANTD diver, instructor, or facility
was currently sanctioned, endorsed, or (most importantly) insured to
conduct dives deeper than 260. -- Comments?
Second: At work today, I was told that while working, teaching, etc. I
was not to exceed a PO2 of 1.4 ata at any time (even for basic,
recreational EANx training, which allows for a max. PO2 of 1.6). Also,
that while teaching rebreathers (both CCR and SCR) I was required to
have a minimum of 2 (two) O2/PO2 monitoring devices attached to the
breathing loop of the unit. This was based on "a discussion I had with
Tom Mount about some proposed OSHA regulations that, altho they are not
yet in effect, will be passed in the near future." -- Comments? My
understanding of OSHA regs is that they may not be taken in pieces. If a
workplace is in violation of one part, it's the same as violating all
parts. If this is true, I anxiously await the arrival of our on-boat
recompression chamber which OSHA regs require for diving activities on
gases other than air. Did I miss discussion of another variance with
some major changes to existing regs? Please...Fill me in here!

PS: What's the latest scoop on Deep Tech, Peterson, Curt Bowen, Advanced
Diver, etc...?????
PPS: Private replies would be great if this has been hashed out, and
I've just been out of touch!
