Kevin Connell, I believe the importance in guages on deco bottles is as follows: Extended bottom time due to an emergency means extended deco. It is good to know how much deco gas you have left so that you can modify your breathing or your deco stops in advance. You know exactly how much gas is in the tank. Any number of things can happen that can cause you to have less deco gas by the time you use the bottle then when you first gauged it. I wear both of my deco bottles on the left with gauges and have no problems with clutter or failure. Strappin down the gauge with a piece of tubing works great.
