Garret, What ever happened to finders keepers or salvage laws. The majority of these wrecks dissapear with time. Either through corrosion, sea life or sand build up. Mother Nature is a bitch and wrecks don't last all that long by themselves relatively speaking. What is wrong with me putting a few pieces of brass or bronze in my house to display to my friends. Would you rather these pieces of history dissappear forever. You might suggest that I give them to a museum. Kiss my ass, I found them they are mine. As far as the gov't salvaging these historic monuments for museums, that is ridiculous. I have yet to see a gov't project that could and would do a decent job of bringing up all the artifacts. Calling divers who salvage and preserve screws, portholes, props and other misc. items "wreck rapists" is sure to make you a popular man.
