I have accomplished what I set out to do with this pony thread. That is to encourage you all to think about why you use a pony rather than mindlessly strapping one on the side of your tank because it's seems like the cool thing to do. I hope that this new level of consciousness about ponys will encorage those deco diving with a single and a pony to reconsider what they are doing. Considering this is "techdiver" I was kind of surprized as to the outpouring of support for large ponys, which makes me suspicious as to what you "techdivers" are doing out there. Purchasing a pony and strapping to the side of your single does not make you a doubles diver. I also hope that those using ponys for non-deco diving will think a bit about how to handle air emergencies and not be a "pony junky". Don't put aside other safety considerations because you think you have all bases covered by hanging a bottle off the side of your tank. You might consider a smaller bottle and mounting it in a place you can get to it. For those of you who don't think I should be dispensing advise, well all this is all my humble opinion and if you don't like it, you can either unsubscribe or filter me out.
