Jim, Unfortunately what was said in the first half of my mail is plain simple fact. As an instructor in the field I see it day in and day out, the blind leading the blind. And no I didn't learn the hard way, actual 90% self taught thru as you say reading , experiencing, assembling and disassembling gear etc. many times a long time ago. What you say is true some people where NOT meant to be divers, especially deep divers, BUT I HAVE YET TO SEE AN INSTRUCTOR DURING ANY COURSE SUGGEST TO A STUDENT THAT THIS TYPE OF DIVING IS NOT MEANT FOR YOU AND YOU SHOULD GO HOME. The fact of the matter is the Dive industry is a commerical concern and to exist it must SELL. This means with much regret that certifications are sold, not earnt, 99% of the time, eg. a candidate pays his upfront fees for said course, and from that momment on his/she belives that it is their GOD given right to a C card by the end, rain, hail or shine. FACT, PERIOD. Regretably Manny -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
