:In fact they are not the same, as the computer algorithms seem to be :overly conservative, presumably for liability reasons, and will not :generate the deep stops, so these have to be added manually. I'll agree that most dive computers are more conservative that generated tables but they also don't prevent you from doing the deep stops. The Nitek3 will generate stops as deep as 90fsw and the penalities for doing the short deep stops don't add up to much more time on the 20/10' stops. : I have a :big problem with blindly accepting ceilings and stop times from an :electronic device in this sort of environment. What's the difference between accepting the computers ceilings and your table generated ones? :Dive computers make it :easier for persons to get in the water without properly planning the :dive, and to wreak havoc on their physiologies with all sorts of weird :sawtooth profiles. Agreed that they make it easier to do the dive without as much deco planning but I've seen just as many sawtooth profiles in table divers as those with computers. : Plus, if you and your buddies do not own the same :model of computer, whose profile do you follow? Obviously the more conservative of the two for the deco obligations. :There are subtle :differences in the algorithms used in all of these things, and the more :"conservative" it is, the more likely the shape of the curve is :complete nonsense. They can make for some long hang times, or shorter depending on the computer. One thing I don't like is that most of them penalize you if you prefer to do your 10' stop at 15'. :Tables can not cease functioning, and so would seem :to be the better alternative. Admittedly this does take a little more :time and effort, but then this goes back to OW1 - Plan the dive, dive :the plan. Agree that tables won't cease to function on you but not convinced on their being the better alternative. My .02 Mike -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
