I can give you the rules that apply for the CMAS vis-a-vis ice-diving, but am
unaware of rules for the "technical ice dive" .
When we go ice diving, we all have fully seperate first and second stages. We
have a fully equipped standby diver-team ready to dive.
We are attached with a safety rope of max 50 metres long, and we all know the
rope-signals that apply. There is some discussion where to attach this rope.
Some attach it to their bottles, some to the BC-wing D-ring. Suffice it to say
here that it should be within reach because you must be able to send and
receive signals with it.Each dive-team consists of two divers which are
preferably attached to each other by a buddy-line. Personally I feel that this
is not necessary because the viz under the ice is usually excellent, and the
extra rope can be a liablility .Every diver is fully briefed on the medical
emergency numbers and procedures. All dives are non-deco and there are no
night-dives under the ice. Maximum dive time is limited to 30 minutes and a 30
metre depth, because of the cold.
Dive leaders should have at least 20 (preferably more) dives in the chosen
location.

Hello,
I am posting this as a request for information. I am interested in ice diving
and would like to know what the opinion is out there concerning gear set-up for
said activity. Are redundant air sources consider standard equipment? If so how
should they be rigged? Any thoughtfull information would be appreciated. Thank
you.
