Geoff, Unfortunately, I have both. The NiTek3 is very reliable and do switching as you want each and everytime. On trimix dives, you disable the decompression calculation and use it as an expensive bottom timer to 200m. The only complaint I have is the display screen a bit small and doesn't have a back-lit light source (not a big deal). I like to use it when I dive my Halcyon on Nitrox so I could switch to different O2 fraction depending on depth. I only need a Uwatec bottom timer for trimix dives. The Nemesis IIa that I have now is brand new received from Cochran when my original IIa broke after 6 months of use. It broke during the first time I had to do multiple dives on consecutive days. I don't dare to use it for fear it might break. I will try to sell it to any divers I see wearing double-redundant-100# bungie wings. They tend to love these things <g> On one of the multi-days dive trips last year, 80% of the Cochran computers (Commander and Nemesis II) onboard 'broke'. Personally, I noticed whenever a Cochran computer broke, it either gives very 'extended' deco time (i.e. 99 hours) or simply shut down during the dive. My original IIa shut down during the dive when I still had over 30 minutes of deco left - was not a particularly good scenario. If Cochran let me trade my brand-new-never-see-water Nemesis IIa in for say... the Lifeguard with O2 sensor, I will do it immediately so I could at least have an O2 sensor for my RB - strictly for redundant to monitor the PO2 and not for deco information. As for now, it simply sits on the shelf consuming batteries. If I failed to convince you, and you still want a Nemesis IIa, I have a VERY good deal for you <g> Phi > ---------- > From: Geoff Mullard[SMTP:gmullard@ho*.co*.au*] > Sent: Thursday, January 07, 1999 12:22 PM > To: techdiver@aquanaut.com > Subject: Nitek3, Nemesis IIa Warts and All > > All, > > I am considering the purchase of a new computer and have been looking at > the Nitek3 and the Nemesis IIa. > From what I have read and seen from the Nemesis IIa's my dive buddies own > the plan would be as follow's. > The Nitek3 would be useful for nitrox and mixed gas diving, the Nemesis as > a paper weight. > > All comments welcome. > > Geoff. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
