Subject: Re: Question: Metric PP units?
In laymans terms, 1 ATA = 1 Bar

When calculating partial pressures using metric is a lot easier (to my brain
anyway)

At 55 meters salt water (MSW), the absolute pressure is 6.5 bar,

(the formula is : (depth in meters/10) + 1)

the PPO2 is thus 6.5bar times the fraction of Oxygen in the mix (no need to
first divide the depth by 33 to calculate the ATA)

If you are using air, the PPO2 is thus 6.5bar times 21% = 1.365bar, which is
about as far as you should go in the cold and murky waters off the English
coast. (On air anyway )

Also, since we rate cylinders at their water capacity (12 liters, 15 liters
etc) it seems a lot easier to calculate air consumption requirements and so
forth.

Still, although metric is fine for diving, I still think in Farenheit for
heat, and still order my sausages in pounds !!

Cheers

Mark
