Hello again, With reference to Mr Conradie's comments just recieved, I thought it might be appropriate to raise the 'Thirds rule'. This is a simple concept adopted by all CDG divers: Breathe one third on the way in; One third is to exit; One third is then left as a reserve. This can easily be applied to open water diving with two independant tanks: Breathe one third of tank1; Change regs; breathe one third of tank2; change regs; breathe the second third of tank1; change regs; breathe the second third of tank2; change regs and surface. Not only does this method allow you to check both systems are fully functioning, but it leaves plenty of reserve and fully exploits the ideas of redundancy. Each diver has his/her own way of doing things, these will clearly change with environment and experience but the 'thirds rule' is one I would never consider breaking, or changing, back or side-mounted. May the last porthole win! Ali.
