Subject: Techdivers arguments
I asked Kee Karoo1 for the feelings on his neck of the woods about many items
from the "tech" world. From his personal response, I take the liberty of
posting an excerpt from his message related to this newsgroup

They are a group of hyenas barking at unison against anyone else outside their
clan. Intolerance at its apogee. Not only they are wrong in their claim to
DIR, but their shouting tantrums and group-coordinated attacks on any
divergent views remind us of those names in history who claimed to have
absolute truth on their side and used that claim to trample on everyone else's
right to make their own decision. One of the reasons I wear this uniform is to
garantee every American their right to choose without coercion. I am
definitely not going to bow to the hyenas.

Our club does almost exclusively deep wrecks (over 150'), nobody even comes
close to their so-called hogarthian setup or DIR, and we have been accident
free since our inception more than 20 years ago. Do we have discipline ?
Yes.
Do they have discipline? Yes. So, it might not be the gear configuration after
all.
I have seen many, many different configurations in many, many different places
around the world doing similar and doing dis-similar tasks. The secret is NOT
the gear setup, nor its configuration. It's in the strict discipline. The
hyenas have discipline, so do we, so do many others around the world; whether
Brazil, France or Belgium. Those who have it, will remain accident-free. Those
who don't, their configuration will make little difference in their fate.

Once in a while someone reads an argument in the NG and brings it to
discussion at our meeting. We look for weaknesses and strengths of a
particular claim and each person decides on their own whether it is viable for
them. When we dive, we agree on a configuration for the entire group (it could
be different for any particular dive) and then we all dive it as part of the
plan. >>>

Maybe it is the discipline what really makes the difference, not the gear
configuration. All the barking is futile. Opinions on other subjects have
been posted in rec.scuba.
