Harry, I don't interfere with how JJ teaches as he is the best, and I do not worry about what he shows up with to dive with me, as it is always perfect, and he is always 100%. I do not envy any of you dealing with students all of the time. I did a few student dives with Cole and JJ, and they really put them through the paces. Dealing with shut offs is a big one with them, but the situations are controlled. The real trick will be to get the students to routinely reach back and check the knobs every time they get near something or go through a small spot, as you can not feel the knob hit if the tanks do not hit - that is where the bad suprises come in. The bottom line is that at WKPP ( and GUE ) we are contantly going over all of this kinds of things and looking for the best, most comprehensive methods available. JJ , Brent and Gavin have put up with some real stroke shit out of me when I was trying different "solutions", and as always, the simple one was the best one. Look at the rebreather , for example. Keep in mind that DIN manifolds are new since those guys started diving, and one only needs to go back to Gavin's 10 year old equipment chapter in the NACD manual, and see Brent's picture in it. The reason JJ and I can talk tough about all of this stuff is that we have personally done and tried every stupitd trick in the books, and have come up DIR. I do not worry about what the idiots out there are trying to constantly pull on us - just ask them, "who has the end of the line", as Bill Main likes to say - the WKPP - everywhere in every thing and in every concept and facet of this sport. They can discuss dissention in their own ranks. The usdct can not even get enough people involved with them to hold a poker game, and that is because the rest of the "community " outside of the WKPP all hate each other so much that they can not do anything together. We are the largest , most cohesive, most productive organization in diving right now, with 100 active and aboout 300 associated mambers in fifteen countries who are all on the same page - DIR.
