Most of my Cave Diving with Back Mounted Tanks involves independent tank & regulator configuration for redundency. When I have used a Manifold I tend to breathe from my long hose (2m length) working on the principle that anyone wanting air will go for what's in my mouth because it must be working. My other reg is on a neckstrap and I can easily get to it. When running independents (some call them Doubles, other Twins - I'll stick with independents) I still have a long hose reg but because I am manually switching regulators I may have the long hose in my mouth or I may not. Note: the few times I have been involved in out of air situations (fortunately never in an overhead environment - touch wood) things have happened so quickly that: 1) We buddy breathed for a few cycles until we got ourselves sorted out - I ran out as I was using a Twin Hose reg & the J Valve didn't work. 2) I did a free ascent from 15m as my reg was jammed in my student's mouth because her 2nd stage had just blown off the hose - causing flailing hose & lots of bubbles and noise. Just when I was about to put my other reg in my mouth we reached the surface. Hope this has been of use to you. -------------------------------------------------------- Zyg Poliniak | Phone: 61-3-252-3072 (B/H) Melbourne | Fax: 61-3-252-7390 (B/H) Australia | Email: <zyg@ac*.ne*.au*> | Email: <100353.1605@co*.co*>
