I read this summer 4 of David Poyer's dive oriented fiction books, I though you all might enjoy a review. In order: -Hatteras Blue: In this book we are introduced to the main character, Tiller Galloway and his baggage of being the black sheep of the family. Tiller is sort of a druken, horing Dirk Pitt with a boatload of guilt which makes him drink booze like a fish. But in spite of his bad attitude he is the sort of guy where if a ship when down, he would be the only one who floats to the top. Anyway he go's after a german submarine full of nazi gold and anybody who had done subs out of Hatteras will enjoy this book a lot. Tiller is a bit depressing and a bit of a masochist but hey, aren't we all? -Bahamas Blue: Here Tiller get's reinlisted by the drug lord who he had done some smuggling in the past. The best part of this book is how he go's about trying to bring up a sunken fishing boat full of radioactive toxic chemcials at 300ft. He does some cools stuff like pre-mixing bottom mix in K-cylinders and using a band mask and a hose. His idea of decom rehydration is a bottle of whiskey. -Louisiana Blue: This was my favorite because it gives you the best feel for what's it's like to be a commercial 1500' saturation diver. After reading this book you realize it takes a certain kind of lunatic to be a commercial sat diver. A must read, a real page turner if you really like diving. Imagine diving a virgin untouched wreck at 900', scoring some portholes and then blowing it up to get it out of the way... What a book. -Down To A Sunless Sea: Here's for the cavers. Poyer is real good at putting you in the heads of his characters. This is the most "dirk pitt" one of the group where, after his hatteras dive shop burns to the ground, he go's to Fla and takes over a dive shop. Not only does this give you some feel for caving, it also shows what you go through running a dive shop. I got the 4 at amazon.com. I hope Poyer is doing some more novels like these. If you really enjoy diving you will like all these books.
