Thanks for your reply and moderation. I comprehend your frustration.
Instructor supervised dives should never end in fatalities...but they do occur.
Accidents are unfortunately a part of the instructor equation. Idiots in diving
are also a part of the natural landscape. Having dived both coasts extensively,
I can easily verify that there are just as many idiots out in the West as there
are here in the Northeast. The difference is: (qualitative) Idiot divers in the
West look better "stroking" than their counterparts here in the NE.
You state the Quality Assurance has not dealt with this problem. Can you
categorically state that for a fact? It's hard to believe that headquarters has
not looked into this, nor the previous Malibu incident? Class actions suits
have a funny way of getting organizations to act. By the way, SOP for any
accident is to immediately fill out incident reports.
As for the injured diver, it's a good thing he ended up at the Hyperbaric
chamber. They are the greatest people in the world and he got the best of the
best. I used to take my students there for dive related field trips. They
(chamber) will certainly let the proper channels know the details of this most
recent incident.
As for Farnsworth, are we talking about the real Farnsworth Banks, or
"Little Farnsworth" near the quarry? Personally, I just can't see how the area
bottoms out that deep given the topography. Are you saying there are additional
pinnacles beyond the bigs ones that are so hard to anchor onto?
Question to anyone: Is that big Torpedo Ray still out there? He scares the %$#&
out of me.
