For crying out loud, Truckie, it's for the buzz, man. The big dark secret
of scuba diving is the fact that you get a real nice, legal buzz once you
get past a certain depths. Except for the fact that you might die, it's
the perfect high. You can get as hammered as you want, when you ascend
you are sober instantly. And to top it all off, there is no hangover.

And I am convinced that the buzz is addictive. I really think that divers
start to crave the narcosis high and will dive in the most horrible
conditions to achieve it. Look at how many ex-alcoholics are divers, it's
a great replacement for the bottle. Add the the adrenalin rush when you
almost kill yourself and, man, you've got a party going on in your head.
Look at the real narcosis addicts, they fit the profile. They abandon
their families, will spend their last dime on a air fill and are willing
to live out of the back of a Van for weeks a time.

Deep air teachers simply drug pushers. It's the ideal occupation for
them, getting a buzz and getting paid for it to boot. How about that
trimix instructor who uses air while his students are on trimix. Need I
say more? Telling narcosis junkies to put helium in their mix is like
asking a heroin addict to put cut in their fix. All this is obvious to me
and it is hilarious to see everybody beat around the bush on this topic.

 Jim
