You were putting down a book you admit you never read, in order to plug your own book, which you admit is dated and short on specifics? Doesn't there seem to be something a little wrong about that, especially considering that you are one of the genuine experts in the field, whose words on the merits of a gas mixing book people might be inclined to put a lot of weight on? -------------------------------------------- I'm not and was not putting down the Oxygen Hacker's Guide. The original post asked about teflon tape and said that there was nothing about it in the Oxygen Hacker's book. All I said was that if this book and disjointed pieces of information derived from various posts on this list are all you have to go on when you're trying to build a mixing panel, you have a long, difficult journey ahead. My chapters in the Mixed Gas book ARE dated, that book was written in what? 1991? The references I used are from the 1980s. But the general information is still useful! Oxygen cleaning in theory has not changed much since then; the materials addressed in that book have not changed with respect to their oxygen compatibility. But now there are better, safer, and cheaper cleaning solutions. These kind of issues are those that cause me to say that the information is dated, but still useful. The original "poster" wanted information on where to find out about something that was not covered in a particular reference; I referred the poster to another book that does have the information. I also pointed out some of the other issues he would be facing; if these are covered in the Oxygen Hacker's Guide, great! If not, subsequent posts by me have provided other references that will cover it. But when you quoted me, you omitted the list of materials that I recommended. They are: Mixed Gas Diving, maybe the Oxygen Hacker's Guide (I say maybe because I haven't read it), the ASTM and MIL-STD documents, and probably as useful as anything else: manufacturers' catalogs. I'm not "plugging" "my" book. I was paid and made all the money I will ever make off that book the same year it was published. If for some reason, that book goes on the NYT bestseller list from now till the year 2002, I won't see another dime! Of course I like the book; it was a honor to be asked to contribute to it, and I am proud to see my name on the cover, and my material printed within, essentially unchanged (sometimes to my detriment, Ha Ha Ha) from what I submitted. So, please don't misunderstand me. I'm not putting down OxyHacker or this list. Sincerely, C.
