- how to share gas - not covered and covered. When you are propely rigged, there is only one way. I did go over how to do it if you are breathing a stage when the problem arises, but I did not cover travelling while sharing or scootering. This is covered in cave courses and wreck courses. The logic is simply that the donee needs not to be in a position to be have the reg pulled from him , and he needs to be calmed down by being kept busy. For instance, you let him tow you on his scooter - this way he is not thinking about his predicament. We (WKPP) have our own set of internal priorities that we teach for these situations, like how to manage the gas in the entire dive, never leave a working scooter, etc. This is one of those things that one needs to have thought out prior to getting in the water, and one of the glaring reasons to invoke Rule Number One, which for instance the entire WKPP has invoked on the entire usdct - just think, about the rebreather on the scooter bullshit and you are well warned to never, ever under any circumstances be stupid enough to go anywhere near a Bill Stone operation . Other Items Suggested: - that we do the NACD workshop despite the protests of the usual suspects - will do, but this is the last time - CDS is out of the question permantently - we will have nothing to do with that organization - overall dive operation - the key elements are discussed that apply universally - gasses - we discuss gases, but not in the sense that the strokes do it. We do not differentiate between "grades", since they will only sell you aviators and usp anyway, thanks to the accidents. We discuss the real issues of gases. - dry suits - we discuss - argon we discuss - deco is discussed - we show how everything is attached and constructed other than the scooters - hoses, stage rigs, clips, lights, attachment of different things, backup in case of the nylon loop breaking - we do not discuss the personal preferences that have been conjured up by diferent WKPP members - I do not subscribe to any of this crap - we do not discuss any "Rule of Thirds" since that is bullshit. We manage gas properly, and thirds has nothing to do with that. - fitness - we discuss it and why, but offer no program for that other than to suggest that whatever you do, you do it every day - we showed it to KVI to determine if it is understandable - it all is - we do discuss ocean dive planning and changes for cold water, but do not make any glove recommendations - we do the same format - setting up for a dive, but then on the really important stuff we go back and discuss it in another setting, and for the details we have graphics and webb addresses to view the still pictures - How multiple stage bottles are attached on the left side of a diver - How you exactly label your cylinders - Which component of your system is O2 cleaned; why and why not - How you configure your gear when diving singles in OW - Selection of "Right" cylinders (i.e. brand, volume, etc.); why & why not - What modifications, if any, are done on your drysuits (in detail) - How a diver/scooter is towed - How you "repair" your reg (i.e. 2nd stage) underwater - we do not spend much time discussing what we do not use, but we do discuss why we use what we use - DIR is a whole system, and all of this fits into place. - PAL for other countries - we will make a few PALS to send for these guys to copy locally. We already have our guys in teh UK , Europe , Scandinavia , South America and Oz, but we need the saem for other areas. - we do the complete walk through of gas mixing - single tank and recreational rigging - specifics of cave diving , rebreather diving, scooter diving and fixing are NOT covered. Jablonski has the cave tapes, Errol has the rebreather tapes, and Errol has the complete scooter tapes. Scooter tapes are kept in the family only, which means you have to be involved with us or take one of our courses to see these tapes. - I am afraid to recommmend any dietary stuff since that too is a complete system and must be adhered to or causes more damage than not doing it. Besides, many of us are competeing in triathlons, ocean racing, bike racing, or road racing, and that is separate but great for diving. I just do distance swimming events, and that is not exactly what most people think of as a good time, or have the time or facilites to do it. Se the Physiology and Medicine of Diving or Geiton's, or Dr, Colgan's book for this. - we discuss the depths for gases - these are all the suggestions so far - thanks to everyone for participating, we will try to make this a good one. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
