Subject: Who are you, who am I? WAS Re: Trimix question
Jim,

Once again you paint a picture that is far from the truth. The facts are:

When you first started talking about your web site I had nothing to say
about it and have NEVER commented publicly or privately about the site.
But I will now. What is there is good. However, in my opinion it is
incomplete!

I first learned that you were NOT trimix certified about this time last
year. That was the same time that I learned that you were "planing" your
FIRST trimix dive. I did comment publicly about that!

Reading, collecting information, knowledge, and possessing a broad
understanding are all different concepts. I do not doubt that you have
done a great deal of work on your web site. However, I do doubt your broad
understanding of the information you are disseminating!

Although I do know the city and state you reside in, I do NOT know and have
never "published" your home address, your phone number or any sort of map
to any place let alone your home. I invite anyone interested to check the
archives. Frankly I don't care enough to even find it, although Im sure
I could if I wanted to. If your phone rang for 2 weeks straight than you
angered someone else, I don't have time to play games with you.

As for the info about your employer... Well, lets just say that was a
lucky shot in the dark. And you just reposted it. If you had chosen to
conduct your self in accordance with UUnet's "acceptable use policy", or
like wise with mindspring, I would never have paid you any mind at all. My
complaint was not WHAT you posted but rather the language you chose to use
in this forum. Keep it rated PG and that will no longer be an issue. Rate
it X and I will encourage everyone to respond in whatever manner they feel
appropriate.

As for the mail bomb... I sent a large file to you at your request!!! To
the best of my knowledge only one person I know has corresponded with you
at all. His were comments on how you could improve your web page. He
alone sent you more than the 4-5 messages you claim to have received on
that topic. All of them were, as my friend put it, well received. But
last time he checked you had not acted on his suggestions. That is of
course your prerogative.

In short my motivation is to further the quality of information available
to all divers. You site is lacking!!! Your understanding is lacking!!!
And people are using the deficient information on your site to short cut
the learning process. Having never seen you in the water I will not
comment on your skills. However, I met one individual just a few weeks (on
a Friday night) ago that got his "information from the net". He did his
first four "mix dives" (they were actually heliair) about 3 weeks ago. I
saw him again the following Monday morning as I was leaving town. He was
checking out of the motel after a trip to the chamber in Marquette!!! Do
you see a problem with this??? I hope others are luckier than he was with
his little adventure.

I spent more than an hour Monday talking to this guy explaining to him WHY
he got bent. I am still corresponding with him to further his
UNDERSTANDING of trimix, its applications, uses and safe decompression
techniques.

I have provided a great deal of information on this forum in the areas
which I have a sound foundation. I do not answer every post that comes
along and pretend that I have all of the answers or that I can better
answer every question that is posted. I feel that the QUALITY of the post
is far more important than the quantity of posts.

The last thread to which I responded (Re: Cold water risk) ended the thread
and resulted in one private reply from a person I have yet to meet. The
reply is as follows:

>Thanks for finally bringing closure to this subject in a comprehensive and
>sensible way. As usual you input is typically the last word on these
>subjects.

On the subject of who has what web sites. Currently I webmaster TWO diving
related web sites totaling more than sixty web pages. I do not and will
not post the URL's to this list because they are both commercial sites.
However, they seem to have good traffic despite that. The more active of
the two sites received 5227 total hits last month and more than 21,700 in
the third quarter of this year. I am rather disappointed that only 25
countries are represented in those totals. That is approximately 2 times
the number of hits your site receives. But I don't advertise the URL!!!

Some of my other contributions to the diving community include:

Diver Development.
Training Assistance to dive instructors across the state.
Low cost	Repair and equipment maintenance.
Informal	training of divers.

That is where the acronym DART comes from. Just add AQUA (water) and you
get the handle I use for my e-mail account AQUADART. Some of my friends
call me BULLDOG. Both you and (I know you don't know him) Greg Zambeck
should know why.

Jim, I average 80-100 dives per year many of them in conditions that would
make your toes curl!! I am certified NAUI Gold Master Diver (no longer
available to few of us willing to put in the effort) IANTD trimix (within
the first 600 certified to that level) and both NACD and NSS-CDS Cave
Diver. Further I plane to complete my ITC before the end of the year.

Along with 5 other divers from Michigan (5 of the best divers), I have 3
projects slated for 1999:

We plan to raise, move and resink a twin engine Piper Aztec as a part of
one on Michigans Bottomland Preserves. It is currently in between 180-210
FFW. No other group would take the project!!

We are working on an abandoned mine in the state as part of an educational
project. The mine descends, BELOW THE WATER LINE, 1,200' on the diagonal
to a depth more than 500 FFW. The project includes film, photo, and
mapping in 45-degree water in an overhead environment, possibly to near
500FFW. The lower levels of the mine also require traversing a submerged
section of the mine to gain access to a different shaft. It sucks to start
your deco so far from home:-)

The third project is a cave system. The system is not WKPP scale.
However it is not documented at this time. We do not know the ultimate
depth or the length of the system at this time. I can not supply further
details at this time.

Now tell me Chief, what are you REALY doing for the diving community???
