Were you planning to start on the Edmund Fitzgerald? To use your metaphor, most racing drivers don't get started by going to IARCD (International Association of Race Car Drivers), getting a walletful of cards, then debuting in the Indy 500. They get a relatively slow car in a minor series and start racing, and work their way up, learning from experience and from the other drivers. Learn or die, if you like. In the process, if they aren't already a motorhead, they also pick up the necessary technical background. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
