Why start with a narcotic diluent? Why not start on straight heliox? I mean unless you can make nitrogen non-narcotic in Kevin-land :-) And hey I fully admit I am not up on all the deco ramifications of taking our nitrox-21 and making is heliox-21. Hell I don't even know if they call it heliox-21.. ;-) (I'm not mix certified, don't have easy access to it here, but figure its not more than a weekend worth of self-study to see how it differs from nitrox mixes...) This is "back-of-the-napkin" debate here, but I think there is a worthwhile point. > Deep Specialty: Course is taught and students are trained on EAN 28. > Certification Card issued specifically states certified to dive to 130 FSW, > and obtain only EAN 28, EAN 32 and EAN 36 fills. I think its an evolutionary step we are in the process of taking, albeit with the MOD concerns. And I know several instructors who firmly believe in getting their OW students in nitrox quickly, not for the $$$ (these guys don't teach for the $$), but for the deco advantages. But hey, wouldn't the next evolution be to oxygen enhanced, narcosis- reduced mixes? ie heliox? And again, I was kind of arguing for fun, but the more I think about it, why the heck not?
