Dear Undercurrent Online Reader,

Greetings from Undercurrent Online, the sport diver's source for unbiased,
expert opinions and facts. Here's some late breaking news, which you can also
find at our website http://www.undercurrent.org

Nikonos SB-103 Recall

Nikon, Inc., announced that it is voluntarily recalling all Nikonos Speedlight
Model SB-103 electronic flashes. Gas buildup within the unit could result in
the front lens and flash tube unit, along with the rubberized ring holding
them in place, projecting off the front of the speedlight. Nikon says it has
one report of a possible problem in the United States with no injuries
reported.

The Nikonos SB-103 Speedlights were distributed through dive retailers between
1984 and 1994 and sold at retail for approximately $350. The SB-103 has
subsequently been replaced by the SB-105, which features different
construction and poses no similar risk.

Divers should immediately stop using the Nikonos SB-103 . Nikon is offering
owners of the SB-103 free replacement of their speedlight body with a Nikonos
SB-105 body, with its advanced features, as supplies are available. We have no
word yet as to how long this may be.

Nikonos SB-103 owners in the USA can arrange for a replacement by:

1. Ship your Nikonos SB-103 Speedlight body, insured (minimum of $100), to the
following address:
	Nikon Inc.
	19601 Hamilton Avenue
	Torrance, California 90502-1309
	Attention: Nikonos SB-103 Return

2. Include your name, address, and telephone number, and the address to which
you would like the replacement body shipped (if it differs from your home
address).

It is not necessary to ship cables, brackets, or batteries - only the Nikonos
SB-103 body itself. See http://www.nikonusa.com/sb103 for further information,
or call Nikon, toll-free, 6 A.M. - 4 P.M. PDT, Monday-Friday, at
1-800-645-6687.

Owners outside the USA should consult with the Nikon distributor/importer in
their country -- see http://www.nikon.co.jp/main/eng/news/recall-
sb103-e_98.htm for further details.
