Dan, you should know that VO2 max is highly overrated as a measure of fitness. For instance, Leonard Harvey Nitz, four time olympian cyclist, with two olympic medals (1984), two world championship medals and over 17 national championships had a VO2 max of around 60. His ergometer scores were so bad that many of the women at the Olympic Training Center scored better than him. George Mount who placed 6th in the 1976 Olympic road race had a similar VO2 max. My VO2 max has been measured at 80 and I've never been anywhere near an olympic team. Yet by a pure VO2 max measurement I'm fitter than them? Maybe I'll go over to Harvey's house and demand that he give me his medals when I show him my VO2 score. :) Now VO2 max may mean quite a bit when we're talking about deep diving. I'd image (though I don't know) that having excellent gas exchange can only help in these types of dives. But it has little corelation with actual athletic performance. -- Kevin Metcalfe metcalfe@ec*.co* Concord, CA Cycling Scout http://www.bayinsider.com/getout/cycling -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
