John Chluski and I just finished videoing the new DIR tape, "Doing It Right 98" just yesterday. John will combine this runthrough with bits from the two previous NACD Workshops in which Jarrod, Brent and I went over various issues of gear and diving, as well as some footage from our other tapes. Chluski has professional equipment and lighting, so the details will be clear in this one. Also, we used live microphones and set this up at my shop . The core of this tape is done in a mammer that describes and concentrates on WHY we do what we do from beginning to end, as well as HOW, and has many of the details that were requested since the last tape. It covers setting up the gear, mixing the gas, rigging stages, and includes wreck gear , open water gear, as well as the usual cave gear, and deploying the gear properly. This tape will go a long way towards dispelling many of the ridiculous practices and misconceptions that are rampant in dive instruction today. For the afficianandos of my personal style of dealing with idiots, the first three minutes, in which the the "Four Horsemen" are introduced, and the "Must Carry" piece of secret gear for diving with strokes is displayed, will be enough to have the weenies and strokes howling for years to come and provide endless entertainment for those who understand what this is all about and are sick of the bs out there. The tape will be distributed by Halcyon ( Brownies) and Extreme. I am not going to get involved this time. However, be aware that a bit of each tape's proceeds will go to the WKPP, so if you have a problem with that, do not order one. If one of the usdct can find somebody to order one for them, they will see the real version of the scooter which they failed to copy. I am previewing the final tape Thursday and will then take the master to the lab from which Halcyon to get their copies for those who want it. There is no discussion of rebreathers in this tape, that is a totally separate tape. The scooter repair , maintenance, and motor rebuild tapes are also separate. In the other specific tapes, these are of me teaching parts of Errol's classes. The motor and scooter tapes will not be allowed out until the "usdct" is out of Wakulla. "Doing It Right 98" will be available next week. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
