jim,
you could either have a double seal( where a second set of seals start a 
few inches lower but i don't know it that would work) or just extend the 
suit over the seals like kuffs they could have a velcrs strap for 
tightening but wouldn't be watertight.  the laytex underneath would then 
be protected.  anyway as far as wrist seals go if you are cold water 
diving they are covered by gloves.  Just thoughts i don't know if it 
would actually work and you might have to sacrifice a little bit of drag 
but i suppose its better than hypothermia.

as far as suit heaters i would get all the heating pads etc in order and 
leave the battery pack or whatever at the deco stop.  In the event of a 
flooded suit they may give the diver some extra time.  But i wouldn't 
use them throughout the dive.  There was on heating system for drysuits 
that used a chemical reaction(ibelieve it was h2o2) that when it broke 
down it heated water and inturn heated the divers underwear.  I soaw 
some program on it several years ago but don't know what became of it.
