Subject: Call to Arms, Part 2
Dear list:

Okay, I've now indited all the technical instoketers that have killed
students while on training dives as murderers in my "Call to Arms" postings.
I have also theorized that a lot of technical deaths outside of training
might have been heavily contributed to be these technical instroketers and
sub-standard training.

Just because the death occured after the course and after the issuance of a
c-card does not mean that ptitifully poor training did not play a rule.
Nothing I can prove, but thats okay.

Pissed a few people off. That's life. Also, I got everybody talking and
thinking about this problem, which I consider a major problem. Good.

On to the next topic.

Manufacturers.

You all love to argue about bondage wings and other equipment that MAY
contribute to incidents or accidents, or if you should breath off the short
hose or the long hose ( the whole DIR war , etc. etc.) Well, what the hell
are we all going to do about death gear. Shit that you now is killing
people. DEATH GEAR, ya thats what it is. That's what I called the Fieno
Grand Bleu 'breather that I saw at DEMA a few years back. Right to the
manufacturor's face. THIS IS DEATH GEAR YOU FOOLS ! YOU ARE GOING TO KILL
INNOCENT PEOPLE, I said. Two people in a near by booth bought me a beer when
they overheard me.

Keep on getting those e-mails from the survivors of SCUBA fatalities. Here's
another one, this time seems a certain not-to-be-mentioned rebreather
manufacturor has their own growing body count. What are we gonna do ?? Let's
just say this poor woman's letter " inspired " me to post. Get it ?

I did some editing to protect the person I am corresponding with, but you
will get the general idea.

_______________________________________________________

Hi,
****** ******* died in ( Month ) of (this or very recent ) year, the first
of the ( 'breather manufacturor ) fatalities, trusting his ( brand name )
rebreather and the training he had received for using it. I am ******
*******, ****** *******'s ( close relative ). ****** ******* died beleiving
what he was taught, believing what he did was safe, so why should I need to
counter the lies spread about him by the equipment manufacturers. ******
******* had not been diving for a great length of time, but within that time
he dived as freequrently as the (foreign country ) weather permitted, and
did his utmost to become as educated and familiar as possible with his
practices. ****** ******* purchased his rebreather with the intention of
making his trimix diving safer (less chance of running out of air if
entanglemint should occur, etc), not to extend bottom times by a huge amount
or take any risks, but to improve the safety of his beloved hobby. ******
******* was a good man, probably the truest person I will ever know, he
would help anyone, and his helping with the progression of the inspiration
gave him great pride, with the thought that his efforts would be helping
others. Now he is not here to defend himself, certain people are accusing
him of being some sort of idiot. He did nothing without first consulting the
manufacturers of (type of 'breather ) or an instuctor. He was a very
intelligent man. I am only an open water diver, but it is amazing how much
you can learn about rebreathers in a very short time.

What a political world we live in. He was told everything he was doing was
fine, now they decide you need 150 hours of rebreather experience before
taking a mix dive. How they have changed their tune to what Paul and the
other early ones were told. ****** ******* was the only fatality using
trimix, the others were at shallow depths and using air, and unfortunately
for us who want to improve safety, their units were not recovered. In one
case the diver has not yet been recovered either. Therefore the
manufacturers are saying that ****** ******* died because he was using
trimix, and probably hope that the other units will not be recovered. ******
******* did not cause his own death. He died because he believed what he was
doing was safe in the same way as others have lost their lives because of
what they have been lead to believe.

______________________________________________________________

Since my Call to Arms post, I have been threatened with lawsuits, and had
attorney's tell me that I am stepping into the land of libel, slander and
defamation. ( wasn't on in my map, but I knew it existed somewhere. )

So I am trying not to name names, you know.

And yes, I realize that decedant was:

Qualified for Trimix, but I don't know if in a 'breather.

This was a third replacement unit, current unit decedant was using had been
repaired for oxygen spiking.

Subject was solo.

PM indictated no physical problems.

Subject was found in a state that might suggest hypoxia.

C'mon, you all know its a deat unit.

DEATH GEAR.

So what are we gonna do ??

Kevin
