Grumble.. There use to be only _one_ kevin here :)

I've been blending my own for a while now, and I started with the
Oxyhacker, and then took IANTD Gas Blender for (originally) the sole
purpose of purchasing gas and parts more easily. The gas blender course is
well worth it. I know an instructor that will actually do a little
unofficial side-bar on mixing trimix and homeblending if he knows what
you're aiming for.

Jim Cobb has some really good stuff on mixing, including a parts list I put
together for a cheap whip. http://www.cisatlantic.com/trimix/mixing.html

It's my experience that you can get away with mixing with a cheap 2.5"
gauge, but it's a LOT nicer to have a test gauge 4" or larger. I used to
only hope for the right mix until I got a nice gauge. Also, the premade
whips that lloyd bailey sells are really pretty cheap, and a lot easier to
get than piecing one together.

John Allen also sells whips, but it might take a LONG time to get it from
him (hi john :)

The oxyhacker covers most of what you need to know. The new edition is
really nice because it has a section on helium

I built Roger Lacasse's O2 analyzer, it was easy, and it works better than
miniox, because it's a better sensor.

You can look in the archives for price discussions on gas, but it's all
cheap compared to what you pay at the dive store around here.

Oh, yeah, and it's REALLY nice to have your own compressor.
