I am guessing you have never seen a DIR rig...the "octo" or better called the backup is on the other post from your Primary (long hose)...so it is redundant. If you have a first stage failure, or a tank neck blow you either isolate (tank neck o-ring failure) or shut off the post w/ the freeflowing reg. Easy as that. My buddy is my prime reduncancy however... Once you've seen a DIR rig, wear it and dive it you will find there is nothing better. I don't cave dive, deep wrecks only. I have also converted to a DIR setup for my recreational diving. It is a better setup then my Seahawk and I don't have to think about placement when I tech dive.
