The context of Ken's comments are a situation I have been faced with. It was 1990, before there were dive discussion lists and lots of free advice. When you have to decide whether to hang out or haul ass, to me, there's no question what to do. But you *have no certainty* in such a situation -- no certainty that the bends can be fixed -- or that you will even survive either. I assumed I would be bent, I was right, but I had no certainty that I would "fixable". The exact thought ran thru my mind: "We've gotta get out immediately -- bends can be fixed but his death will be permanent -- God help me." We can only *hope*, as I did at the time, that it's fixable -- and all divers need to know what the *real* risk is. It still is totally misleading to present this scenario, or any blown deco, as fixable without qualifying it. It doesn't matter whether you are impressed or not -- as long as you are *fully* informed and not mislead. In all aspects of diving, you'd better know what you're really in for. Christopher A.
