In order to avoid to have to replace my regulators when I get into more advanced diving some questions. My first regulator is a Mares Abyss (membrame type). This model is ok for deep diving, but does not allow me to take out and clean the 2nd stage under water. How important is this feature? If it is important, I would like some recommendations for good regulators. How about Apeks TX50? You might ask why not ScubaPro, but I am not sure that their piston based regulators are ideal. If silt can cause problems in the second stage, it also can cause failure in the first stage (I assume, for piston types). Personnaly I believe the membrame type is better for two reasons: 1. less sensitive to floating particles, contamination and cold water. 2. will not free flow in case of a high pressure valve failure. Still most cavers use Scubapro. Am I wrong here? and why? I need to purchase another reg. and want to avoid buying the wrong one.
