As I understand it, it comes from the Greek words 'oxus', meaning

This of course relates to diving. The word oxus, meaning
sharp, gives us our word for oxygen:
sharp, or acid + gen (producing).

Then again, this could just be an 'Unbiased Opinion', displaying
'Journalistic Accuracy' and don't forget that the good Mr. Murphy had
an 'Engineering Education' and is kinda a 'Government Worker'
