I am digging out my old dog eared copies of the Dune series now. I will need some good reading. I'm off work now, surgery on Monday, then another week off work. And I can only take ibuprofen and the like - codeine sends me straight to the ER. On the good side, I got some sleep last night. I guess my brain must have decided that it was not going to do any good, letting the "discomfort" keep me up any longer. After one and a half to two months, the surgeon says I can start an appropriate excercise program. Anyone got any ideas for a post hernia excercise program, that will get me back to wandering the decks of the Wahoo and the John Jack, carrying 150lbs of gear without a clue, asap? > ... Wrolf Courtney ... argue[s] repeatedly with the most basic and well proven > DIR concepts ... I do not recall arguing repeatedly with DIR concepts, though I have probably had my tiffs. Could you remind me? I think that you have inadvertently turned me into a posterboy for everyone who has a question, argument, or complaint about the DIR system. As far as Hogarthian rigging concepts, and the rest of the DIR system, they seem to me to be the best we have. I look forward to the publication of how they have been extended for SC rebreathers (clearly, "breath the long hose" is not the whole story any more.) I also think that it is the best basis for extending in other areas. And there are plenty. Of course, New York/New Jersey wreck diving is the obvious example. But what about the 60' Florida vacation recreational diver, buddied up on the boat with Joe Blow from Chicago, who has never been diving in the sea, but has a five year old C-card.... (That was one of a couple of dives that completely convinced me that I needed to be self sufficient.) > Yes we all have a right to free speech. Novice? No, you can't mean that. Novice techdiver? No, I was a founding member of the list. Novice technical diver? Yeah, I have only had a few dozen staged deco, penetration, or (planned) braille zero-vis dives. Maybe fifty. Definitely a novice. When I get to a hundred, I claim the right to be considered junior intermediate, second class. I do think a few things that may suprise you: Rapid adoption of DIR would be a good thing. Adaptation of DIR to the various diving environments would also be a good thing. Adoption by DIR proponents of effective techniques of persuasion would be the single best way to promote rapid adoption of DIR. A necessary prerequisite for this is to dismantle the cult worship of GIII. I am hoping that he can do this himself. The simple fact is that most of us are no fools. And after the first few times that we get conned and ripped, we learn to distrust people and things that we have to take solely on trust. Like the guy who tells us we have to put our faith in a higher power, and our wallet in his hand. The barker at the fair, who manages to keep pumping up the size (and cost) of the teddy bear that we are going to win for our kid. The guy who is super high champeen of cave diving some place down south, and who is going to tell us what to do, and BROOKS NO ARGUMENT! -- Wrolf Wrolf's Wreck: http://www.concentric.net/~Wrolf -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
