Regarding gopher access to opal: I think I remember hearing that they were trying to move to WWW and mosaic, and so gopher wasn't really supported anymore, and I'm not sure they ever really planned on getting it fully working. Haven't tried either in a while, in any case, but I remember that the whole thing, including the wreck database, was a work in progress. Lots of people have been trying to unsubscribe unsuccesfully lately: to do so, send "unsubscribe", no quotes, as the message body, subject line doesn't matter, to techdiver-request@opal.com, not to techdiver@opal.com. The server can do some other neat stuff with archived messages. If you've never played with it, try it. send it the commands "help" and "index" and start looking through the archives. And finally, I'm vain enough to think that some of you out there might care that my email address has changed. Chimp will soon only exist on a backup tape, and in our hearts.
