Separate it into logistics & tactics the captain is the logistics expert.. he puts you where you need to be when you need to be there. END...FINI..TH-TH-THAT'S ALL, FOLKS! If it was understood that was his ONLY function, lawsuits against boat captains would be a thing of the past "Hell No! I didn't know he was gonna commit suicide, he just asked me to drive him to this spot..I did that, got him there safely, and was prepared to bring him back if required" If the diver then dies, who's he gonna sue? maybe the person(s) that told him his suicidal behavior was ok, but NOT the water taxi.. Now the self-proclaimed expert who determines what goes on UNDER the water..another story. If we absolve captains from the responsibility of policing diving practices, we ensure we can get transportation to the dive sites, which is something most of us cannot provide for ourselves. If we require them to also determine what is the best way to DIVE, we run the risk of being at the mercy of every idiot that has ever seen a scuba tank and happens to own a boat.
