Bill and George tend to post about all the things that have killed divers in similar situations in the past in response to the first reports of a new fatality. Oftentimes the same factors have again claimed another diver, but as divers (slowly) get smarter it'll turn out the deceased was innocent of at least some of those factors. Many years ago I trained with a NAUI instructor who was considered by many to be a real hardass about safety; his day job involved being an NCO for the Canadian military and he didn't ease up at all when he got off work and went diving. Late one night he got to talking about all the body recoveries he's done and how it doesn't get any easier, and suddenly everything else he had been saying and doing made perfect sense. I have a lot of respect for the people who have been there and had to do that job; they know what they're talking about when they talk about safety. Still, I do wish they'd wait to find out what specifically happened each time around before starting the Accident Analysis on it. -- Anthony DeBoer <adb@on*.ca*> -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
