VO2 > Max is the best single indicator of deco success in this case. That's not true - not "everyone" who emulates you understands the whole picture. As usual, after my last public post to you on this, I got inundated by a series of supporting messages from various people. I was actually surprised to hear of at least two specific cases where someone was bent while specifically taking *your* advice to avoid "weenie" long decompression times. These were people who were specifically influenced by your postings, I am told. I was worried about the potential for this to happen, but apparently it already *has* happened. Obviously, they had not made a "complete" emulation of your practices (zero exertion, near-saturation bottom times, adequate thermal protection, etc, etc, etc). Even if someone does emulate you perfectly, there is no guarantee they can get away with it, and there is certainly no guarantee that you will continue to get away with it. All I'm saying is that when you go boasting about your 8.5-hr decos follwoing 6 hrs at 300, you make it CLEAR to everyone the specific factors you have going in your favor - both the ones you usually talk about (conditioning) and the ones you seldom mention (zero exertion). Also, you need to make it clear that it's not especially wise to extrapolate your ratios to apply to one hour at 300 requiring less than 90 minutes of deco - I doubt even you would do that - especially on a dive involving swimming. The irony of all of this is that YOU were the one who first made it apparent to me years ago that people will read what you say on these lists and use it incorrectly to do dangerous things. Since then, I have tried to be very clear in my public postings about the limitations of extrapolating the information, and have even taken a lot of shit from you & others just to avoid talking about some of the really marginal stuff (e.g., "Papua New Guinea Pig" dives). When is a good time for Bimini? My schedule is pretty thick for the rest of the year - so it might have to wait until '99. Be forewarned: you'll need some reading material on the boat while you wait for me to finish my deco. Like I said, been there, done that on the bends thing, and I have no intentions of risking that again, regardless of how "proven" your magic carpet deco procedures are.
