Bill, evryone that I know who uses the unit always takes o/c bailout
with them, usually in the form of O/C regs from the diluent and o2
cylinders for shallow range diving. These are the limiting factor of the
unit. The unit can be used in a semi closed mode to extend the use of
these gasses within their depth ranges if it is an electronics failure
and the o2 addition systems fail. With total unit failure you are on O/C
as with any other rebreather and anyone attempting a schedule with no
back up will reap the rewards at some stage ( remember the early trimix
discussions), I dont understand were the idea that divers are diving
with no bail out comes from.
What is more relevant is why arent they being used?
I know all the guys who have used it for deeper dives with alternate
gasses, all these people take more than enough O/C with them in case of
failure.

In my opinion the training needs to be made a lot more extensive and the
emphasis needs to be put on in water experience rather than classroom
talk, people need to be left with no illusions of the rebreathers claim
to be a perfect killing machine, I ran my first course a couple of weeks
ago and would have been frightened to let the students loose with the
limited in water experience that the course required, we completed 6+
hours in water and suggested a very limited agenda for the next months.

Hopefully I would be allowed to dive from the Wahoo with my unit or
whatever dive equipment I am using at the time.

John
