I agree with you 100% Jim.
For some time now I have been attempting to introduce Hogarthian and DIR in my
area, and it is just now beginning to gain some practitioners. The problem with
these divers is not totally their fault though. New divers especially are very
easily persuaded into shit convoluted gear. This is the doing of the dive shop
owners and instructors.

I am so fed up with the shops in my area. The owners want absolute control over
every aspect of diving here. On more than one occasion, while trying to support
the local shops, I have sent my students in to purchase decent equipment and
they
return with crap. The owner is an excellent sales person but doesn't know shit
about diving, and even if he did he would still sell them crap because that's
what's in his store. He makes it known that if you don't buy from him, then
forget about any further service.

For people in a fairly isolated are, that is a very persuasive reason to buy
locally.
