What good is any bail out scheme if you black out with no warning from O2 tox ? The possibility of this happening means that you are staking your life entirely on equipment with no viable backup possible. >> It would be interesting to know if Paul Haydon died because of an >> equipment failure or user error. Unfortunately I have no contacts in >> the UK who could find out. User error IS equipment failure ! The brain is equipment that must be prepared and maintained just as a regulator must and contingencies for it's occasional failure must be incorporated into the diver's approach to diving in general. Given the possibility of sudden black out the diver is robbed of the usefulness of such contingencies. You can take effective measures to avoid this problem with open circuit and with most semi-closed rebreather designs but all such efforts with an electronic rebreather still leave you with luck and faith as your best allies. These both suck badly and with alarming regularity. Chuck Boone -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
