I believe that rapid descents have been implicated in narcosis. I vaguely remember (and probably have wrong) speculation that this was due to CO2 build up, potentiating inert gas narcosis. I do not have any references, web based or otherwise. However, http://www.gulftel.com/~scubadoc/n2narc.htm has a bunch of really good references to narcosis in general. OSHA, at http://www.osha-slc.gov/SLTC/commercialdiving/index.html, claims that rate of descent is a factor. They list references to support this - but they are book length. You probably want "Physiology and Medicine of Diving", by P. Bennett, M.D. & D.H. Elliott, M.D., which you can conveniently pick up at http://www.concentric.net/~Wrolf/amazon.html#Medicine Safe net.diving, Wrolf Fred Klauber wrote: > > Does anyone know of any research/articles pertaining to physiological > effects (other than possible ear problems) due to rapid descents when > diving? > -- Wrolf Wrolf's Wreck: http://www.concentric.net/~Wrolf -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
